Welcome to the enchanting realm of Khmer Homestay Baray, a one-of-a-kind community-based tourism destination that encapsulates the quintessence of Cambodian heartland life.
Nestled in Samrong Village, within the Baray Commune of Baray District, Kampong Thom Province, Khmer Homestay enjoys a prime location along National Road No.6. It is perfectly positioned approximately 120km between Phnom Penh, the bustling capital, and Siem Reap, the renowned gateway to the world-famous Angkor Temples.
Khmer Homestay was established to foster local industry as a means of alleviating rural poverty. We believe in the power of collective effort and warmly invite you to participate in our community involvement projects.
Baray spans a pristine 10-square-kilometer area, boasting captivating scenery that includes sweeping green landscapes and traditional village houses.
The fields of Baray are nourished by the expansive Tonle Sap Lake, which lies to the west and dominates the landscape. Its intricate network of estuaries ensures a perpetual supply of water for the local ecosystem and its inhabitants.
Beyond its natural beauty and rich heritage, Baray bears the scars of a tumultuous past. Many recall the harrowing grip of the Khmer Rouge on this part of Kampong Thom Province during the late 1970s and early 1980s, when the rice fields were transformed into killing fields, witnessing some of the worst atrocities of that era.
Since the early 1990s, the resilient people of Baray have tirelessly worked to rebuild their lives and restore their community’s image within Cambodia. Today, visitors to Baray leave with lasting impressions of a friendly and welcoming populace, proud of their heritage and determined to forge a brighter future.
